HISTORY It all began in 1880, when notary Paolo Pellegrino, a passionate winemaker, founded the winery that would become one of the most important in Sicily. But the vision that drove him to realize his dream was an act of redemption and love for Marsala wine. Since then, that dream has guided the family, with masculine authority and feminine sensitivity, qualities blended and passed down from generation to generation to change the fate of Sicilian wine.

The first woman to take over the management of the company was the noblewoman Josephine Despagne, wife of Carlo Pellegrino. Thanks to her sensitivity to the vineyard, inherited from her father, the French winemaker Oscar Pierre Despagne, originally from Sauternes, Josephine brought French expertise to that sun-kissed land, and together with Carlo, she guided Pellegrino to an unimagined future.

From that moment on, the image of Marsala wine evolved in the hands of a family that would become the largest Sicilian wine family.

A busy rhythm marks the life of a land and its people, elevating the nobility of spirit and perpetuating ancient peasant traditions. It is the rhythm that enlivens the hours, days, months, and years in Marsala, on the western edge of the island, a setting for stories of farmers, women, and men, immersed in the laborious work of the land.

Today, as in the past, the Pellegrino family, now in its sixth generation, continues the entrepreneurial dream that began in 1880. The warm days of Marsala offer their captivating beauty. One can savor the beneficial changes brought about by the work done in the land, while rows of carefully tended vineyards stretch across the most beautiful agricultural estates in the area.

"We must imagine a flourishing and great future for Sicilian wine, believe in it, and care for the generous land to bring the dream to life, continually perfecting it," stated Paolo Pellegrino, founder of the winery. And so the secret to success lies in the imprint of love that is passed down, caring for and protecting Marsala and its wine. Thus, since 1880, the Pellegrino family has written its history, becoming one of the most important Sicilian wine families.
