Basilicata is a predominantly mountainous region, benefiting from two sea outlets, resulting in a mild climate on the coast and cold and rainy inland. Viticulture thrives on the slopes, among the most famous being Mount Vulture, an ancient, now extinct volcano, which gives its name to the only DOCG Aglianico del Vulture, which is also the most widely planted grape variety in Basilicata. In the Matera area, we find other important grape varieties such as Primitivo and Bombino Nero.
