Description

Our House's most celebrated wine was created in 1876 to satisfy the discerning tastes of Tsar Alexander II. The emperor asked Louis Roederer to reserve for him each year the House's finest cuvée, which he particularly prized. To accentuate the uniqueness of this exceptional champagne, a flat-bottomed crystal bottle was specially created. It will bear the name of this precious material, which enhances its transparency and brilliance.

Made only in "great vintages", when the Chardonnay (around 40%) and Pinot Noir (around 60%) that compose it are perfectly ripe, Cristal ages in the cellar for 6 years and rests for 8 months after disgorgement.

Tasting notes

Remarkably balanced, Cristal is a linear champagne with an absolutely unique persistence on the palate. The velvety texture reveals fruit aromas supported by a mineral power that releases notes of white fruit and citrus. Cristal is a wine that ages wonderfully. It can be kept for over twenty years without losing any of its freshness and character.

Cellar

Heir to the Champagne House in 1833, an entrepreneur and aesthete, Louis Roederer made the farsighted decision to enrich his vineyards to control all stages of winemaking, creating a completely original style, spirit, and flavor. In the mid-19th century, by purchasing vineyards selected with instinct and eclectic spirit in the Grands Crus de Champagne, Louis Roederer bucked the trends of the time.
While others purchased the grapes, Louis Roederer tended the vineyard, deciphered the character of each plot, and methodically purchased the finest. Convinced that the quintessence of a great wine lies in the land, a lover of tradition and a forward-looking mindset, Louis Roederer charted an exceptional destiny for the House that would ever after bear his name. His successor, Louis Roederer II, was driven by the same patient vision of champagne, the same patrimonial conception of the wine estate, and the same resourcefulness.
