Description

Barbe Nicole Ponsardin, better known as the "Widow Clicquot," succeeded in overcoming the continental blockade that paralyzed European trade in 1814 by bringing her Champagne to St. Petersburg. The success was incredible, and today, the Champagne Brut "Cuvée Saint Pètersbourg" from the Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin house is dedicated to Madame Clicquot-Ponsardin's enterprising spirit. It has a strong character, given by the Pinot Noir that predominates in the cuvée, yet remains elegant and smooth.

Tasting notes

Intense straw yellow with golden highlights. Fine and persistent texture. On the nose, notes of ripe fruit and dried fruit are followed by hints of brioche, almonds, and sweet spices. It is rounded and balanced on the palate, with well-balanced acidity and savory notes. The aftertaste returns to the toasted notes.

Cellar

Veuve Clicquot, a house founded in Reims in 1772, owes its name to the famous widow (or veuve) Clicquot, Nicole Barbe Ponsardin—dynamic, intelligent, and innovative—who helped the house achieve international fame. The style, characterized by Pinot Noir, produces vinous and structured Champagnes that still boast great finesse of structure and flavor. As for their aging potential, just think of the bottles found at the bottom of the Baltic Sea in 2010! Made in the early nineteenth century, they have preserved remarkably well, despite being sweeter than contemporary Champagnes.
