Coca Buton, with its unmistakable bright green color and unique, exotic flavor, is still produced today according to the ancient recipe. It is the only Italian liqueur made from Peruvian coca leaves, carefully selected to ensure their excellent quality and distilled using an artisanal method to extract only the most valuable, aromatic leaves.
The Maceration
The coca leaves, processed separately from the other aromatic herbs, are macerated for a short period in a high-proof hydro-alcoholic solution before the distillation phase in a 1,000-litre still.
The Distillation
During distillation, the cocaine molecule is eliminated, discarding both the head and tail parts, leaving only the finest and most valuable part, the heart of the distillate, a condensation of the aromatic properties of the original raw material. At the end of each distillation cycle, the spent leaves remaining in the cauldron are placed in containers, then sealed and sent to the incinerator under the strict supervision of the competent authorities. The other aromatic herbs that make up the Coca Buton recipe are individually macerated for a short period and then distilled.
