Tenimenti Civa is a relatively young but ambitious company, born from Valerio Civa's dream of promoting the Friulian hills and, in particular, a grape variety that is a symbol of the area: Ribolla Gialla. The winery was founded in 2016, when Valerio acquired two properties in the Colli Orientali del Friuli, in Bellazoia (Povoletto) and Manzano-San Giovanni al Natisone, as well as a small Schioppettino vineyard in Ravosa.
The company's main site is located in the hamlet of Bellazoia, in a landscape that harmoniously blends the gentle hills with the proximity of the Julian Prealps and the clean air that descends towards the Friulian plains.
Here the soil is composed of marl and sandstone of Eocene origin, a particularly mineral terrain that the locals call “ponca”: a base that gives the wines freshness, flavor, and a strong territorial identity.
From the beginning, Tenimenti Civa's goal was clear: to produce authentic wines that reflect Friulian tradition but with a modern and sustainable approach. The project revolves around two complementary souls: on the one hand, the "Ribolla Gialla Project," with a strong focus on clones and the dissemination of this native variety; on the other, the idea of offering "High Quality in the Cart," i.e., high-quality wines accessible even through large-scale retailers, without sacrificing quality or traceability.
The estate boasts dozens of hectares of vineyards, both directly owned and sourced from carefully selected local suppliers.
The varieties grown include native grapes—such as Ribolla Gialla, Friulano (formerly known as Tocai), Schioppettino, and Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso—as well as international varieties traditional to the area, such as Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Cabernet.
From an agronomic perspective, Tenimenti Civa is committed to maintaining a balance between tradition and innovation. Integrated pest management practices are adopted in the vineyards, with minimal use of pesticides and environmentally friendly soil management.
The cellar, however, is modern and technologically advanced: the facility is equipped with temperature-controlled steel tanks, allowing for precise winemaking and respecting the varietal profile of each grape.
One of Tenimenti Civa's most innovative features is the experimental Ribolla Gialla vineyard: here, several clones, some of which are still little-known and unique, have been planted on different rootstocks to study the best agronomic and oenological combinations.
This project reflects the winery's vocation not only to produce wine, but also to conduct viticultural research and preserve the genetic diversity of the territory.
Innovation doesn't stop in the vineyard: an advanced digital management system has been implemented in the new winery (2016-2022), allowing for the tracking of the entire production process, from grape harvesting to bottling.
