A prestigious wine-producing area since 1716, it has been home to the Bazzocchi family estate for four generations, honoring the tradition of quality wines. A tradition that dates back even before the eighteenth century: the Etruscans were making wine in these areas as early as the fourth century BC. In Roman times, the Arezzo area and its surroundings were considered the best for wine production, and in the Middle Ages, the value of the area's wines was even recognized in the Florentine Land Registry. After being included in the edict of Cosimo III de' Medici as a prestigious wine-producing area, the fame of Petrolo and the entire Valdarno di Sopra area continued to grow, thanks to its wines, made from the Sangiovese grape, now renowned among experts. More recently, in 2011, "Val d'Arno di Sopra" became a Controlled Designation of Origin (DOC), the first in Italy to include organic certification among its requirements. The Bazzocchi family had been cultivating their olive groves according to organic principles since the 1990s, and in 2000 they decided to adopt the same standards for their vineyards. With grassing and the elimination of synthetic pesticides and artificial fertilizers, the Petrolo company definitively abandoned traditional agriculture and obtained organic certification in 2015. With 31 hectares of vineyards planted with Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Trebbiano grapes, the Petrolo company stands out for its labels, synonymous with quality.
