Description

Controlled Designation of Origin Our Prugnolo is a wine that seeks to enhance the freshness of Sangiovese's fruity notes, paired with the spiciness of Mammolo. Made from a selection of grapes from young vineyards that are richer in aromas and less structured, it is a pleasant, fruity, and never boring wine. Produced since 1989 as Rosso di Montepulciano, it has worn its current label since 2003. Average annual production is 20,000 bottles. Soil Characteristics The vineyards are located in Cervognano, planted on calcareous, alluvial, sandy soils with a good percentage of silt and clay, varying according to the position. The average planting density is 6,500 vines per hectare. Grape Type and Selection Grape selection is based not so much on the location of the vineyards, but on the characteristics of the grapes from harvest to harvest in the different parcels of young vineyards. Since these are richer in aromas and less structured, we strive for pleasantness, freshness, and fragrance. The blends that make up this wine are: 85% Sangiovese Prugnolo Gentile and 15% Mammolo. Vinification: The grapes, harvested by hand and transported in crates, are destemmed and gently pressed and fermented in steel vats filled to no more than two-thirds of their capacity. Native yeasts are used for fermentation, which lasts about a week at a controlled temperature of 27 to 30 degrees Celsius. Pumping over and manual punching of the cap are carried out. Aging: The wine is aged for several months in glass-lined concrete vats where malolactic fermentation takes place. A light filtration is performed before bottling. It is released for sale in March following the harvest. Optimal maturity: Our Prugnolo aims to enhance the fresh and fragrant character of the Sangiovese as well as the floral and spicy notes of the Mammolo. We therefore recommend drinking it within four or five years of the harvest to savour it to its fullest potential.

Cellar

Our company's history began in 1962 with a dream of founder Egidio Corradi: to produce a noble wine that would enhance the aromas and flavors of his homeland, with the elegance he loved. Born into an ancient family from Montepulciano, and holding a degree in Economics and Business, Egidio spent most of his life between Genoa and Milan, working as an international broker. But in 1962, his boundless passion for wine and his profound knowledge of his homeland led him to purchase two small, semi-abandoned estates in this wonderful corner of Tuscany, Cervognano di Montepulciano. Until then, the two plots had been managed traditionally: different annual crops and a small section planted with vineyards. The founder's vision was embraced and reinvigorated by his daughter Paola Corradi and her husband Ippolito De Ferrari, who in the 1960s became the architects of the founding and subsequent development of Poderi Boscarelli, driven as they were by strong determination and profound dedication. Paola and Ippolito planted the first specialized vineyards with a density of 3,500 vines per hectare. They also built the first winery, renovating and adapting the old stables. The company's original spirit is today preserved by the third generation, represented by Luca and Nicolò De Ferrari, sons of Paola and Ippolito. Luca and Nicolò passionately dedicate themselves to production every day. They reselect and replant the vineyards so they can continue to express the aromas and characteristics of the terroir that nourishes them, ensuring that every single bottle captures the aromas and flavors that grandfather Egidio loved and sought. Extreme attention to cultivation and vineyard management has led, with gradual replanting beginning in the late 1980s, to a total of 22 hectares of vineyards with an average density of approximately 6,000-7,000 vines per hectare. Yield per vine is approximately 1 kg of grapes.
