Description

The white Riesling Alte Rebe from the Alto Adige winery Falkenstein is one of the region's iconic wines, particularly those of the splendid Val Venosta. It is a high-quality wine, crafted using only the finest grapes from old vines. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in large acacia wood barrels. Before bottling, the wine ages for approximately 24 months in acacia barrels and completes its aging period in the bottle.

Tasting notes

It has a bright golden yellow color. On the nose, it evokes fragrant notes of citrus, aromas of peach, apricot, ripe fruit, delicate spicy notes, and a touch of ginger. The palate is rich and intense, with a smooth and juicy finish that anticipates a harmonious finish, characterized by a vibrant, savory, and mineral freshness.

Cellar

The Falkenstein winery was founded in 1995, when Bernadette and Franz Pratzner decided to abandon apple growing to dedicate themselves exclusively to grape growing, producing their first 600 bottles shortly thereafter. In just a few years, Falkenstein has established itself as a leading expression of South Tyrolean and national Riesling, thanks largely to Franz, who has now become a resolute winemaker and skilled winemaker. Today, Franz and Bernadette manage the winery, with the help of several collaborators.

Next door is the family farm, with an inn run by brother Peter, in a sunny location on the northern slope of the Venosta Valley. The Falkenstein winery's vineyards are steep, reaching 50-60% in some places, while the rows are planted on small terraces supported by dry stone walls.

Riesling and Pinot Blanc occupy the highest positions in the vineyards. Interestingly, all the wines are bottled with a screw cap, because Franz believes this ensures a consistently clean and balanced wine.
