Description

At the Mirabella Eclano estate, careful recovery and selection of ancient Aglianico clones from a century-old ungrafted vineyard has led to the propagation of two biotypes. One of these, identified as VCR 421 Antonio Mastroberardino, was registered as a family clone in the National Register of Vine Varieties, published in Official Gazette 43 on February 20, 2021. It features distinctive characteristics of low productivity, loose bunches with medium-sized berries and thick skins.

Tasting notes

Intense ruby red in appearance.
On the nose, a complex, intense and enveloping bouquet: aromas of red fruits, particularly strawberry and raspberry, together with notes of vanilla, tobacco, cocoa and coffee.
Warm, enveloping on the palate, with great structure, long persistence and notable softness.

Cellar

The Mastroberardino family has been involved in the socio-cultural context of winemaking for over two centuries, according to the most reliable historical reconstructions.

The first traces of their presence in Irpinia date back to the Bourbon land registry, in the mid-eighteenth century, when the family chose the village of Atripalda as their headquarters, where the ancient cellars are still located today, and from there a lineage began that inextricably linked its fortunes to the cult of wine.

Ten generations have since then run the family business, amidst alternating fortunes, as always happens in the histories of long-standing family businesses.

The family estates are located in Irpinia, the cradle of three DOCGs: Greco di Tufo, Fiano di Avellino, and Taurasi. They are distributed throughout the region with the aim of preserving their identity and ensuring the protection, continuity, and development of native viticulture.
