Description

La Carraia's Monaldo 809 is an Umbrian white wine created to showcase an ancient region and its profound aristocratic heritage. Its name evokes history: "Monaldo" recalls the founder of the Monaldeschi family, a key figure in medieval Orvieto, while "809" symbolically harks back to the era when this lineage began to establish itself in the region. It is a wine conceived not only as an oenological expression, but as a fragment of local memory.

Tasting notes

In the glass, it presents a luminous straw yellow, revealing a rich, clean, and minerally aromatic profile. The blend—traditionally composed of Grechetto, Procanico, and Vermentino, with occasionally a touch of Sauvignon Blanc depending on the vintage—gives rise to a complex and composed bouquet: delicate yet precise notes emerge, combining aromatic freshness with a distinctive minerality, typical of the Orvieto soils.
On the palate, Monaldo 809 displays fullness and character, without losing any of its elegance. The attack is fresh and lively, while the mid-palate expands with an unexpected structure for a white wine of this type. The balance between the savory and fruity components creates a harmonious sensation, with a crisp and persistent finish, leaving a refined and clean aftertaste on the palate, never overpowering.

Cellar

The winery was originally located beneath the family home, but is now housed in a new building adjacent to the house, built from scratch in the early 2000s. This is where all post-harvest activities are carried out, from winemaking to ageing and bottling.

Equipped with the most modern and efficient technologies, the winery's primary goal is to maximize the quality of the grapes it processes. To this end, it employs cold maceration, bleeding, pumping over, and punching down techniques.

Of great importance is the Barriccaia which, dug entirely by hand in the typical Orvieto tuff, naturally enjoys the best temperature and humidity conditions for the refinement of our Crus.
