Description

This wine is grown at an altitude of over 250 meters, in vineyards facing southeast in Monteodorisio, where the air and clayey soil, with a slight presence of pebbles, offer the perfect conditions for the Montepulciano to reach maturity and character.

Late autumn marks the harvest: late October, with manual harvesting and a rigorous aging process. For this wine, every step is designed to impart strength and depth: maceration on the skins lasts 25 days, punctuated by four délestages that enhance its elegance and complexity. Then, the aging in new barriques, for a double aging (eight months + another eight), imparts warm aromas that complement the fruit, while its powerful alcohol content (15.5%) is never overpowering, but rather an integral part of the wine's balance.

Tasting notes

The nose unfolds intense notes: dark cocoa, fruit preserved in alcohol—ripe cherries, plum jam—and a delicate vanilla that emerges thanks to the oak. On the palate, Janù is full-bodied, enveloping, and the tannins are present, robust, yet well-polished, contributing to a sip that envelops the palate with warmth and structure. It finishes with a good length, leaving traces of chocolate and sweet spices.

Cellar

Jasci & Marchesani have been dedicated to organic winemaking since 1960, even anticipating the very concept of sustainable practices. They achieved official certification in 1978, becoming one of the first Italian wineries to do so. Currently, the company's vineyards span 33 hectares, owned by the company, and another 7 hectares, shared-cropped. The oldest vineyard dates back to 1973, allowing them to grow all the grapes themselves, then vinified in the winery, which operates with renewable energy. Each vineyard produces a different product; those cultivated in the Sinello Valley produce saline and savory white wines, while the clayey soil of the hills of the central Vasto area, thanks to its exposure and temperature range, produces a unique and sought-after Montepulciano, such as Janù.
