Description

Nerubè is the organic Montepulciano d'Abruzzo from Jasci and Marchesani, a historic winery in Monteodorisio (CH), certified organic for decades. It is made from 100% Montepulciano grapes grown at 190 meters above sea level with a southeastern exposure, on spurred cordon vines. Harvesting is done by hand to ensure the integrity and selection of the fruit. In the winery, the red wine is fermented at a controlled temperature of around 25°C, with maceration on the skins for at least 15 days to extract color, aromas, and noble tannins. Aged for 12 months in oak barrels, which round out the wine's character without overpowering the varietal character, followed by appropriate bottle aging.

Tasting notes

In the glass, it displays an intense and brilliant ruby red. The bouquet is typical and complex: ripe black cherry, plum, and fruit preserved in alcohol, spicy notes of pepper and clove, balsamic hints, and a touch of dark chocolate. On the palate, it is full-bodied and harmonious: the well-integrated alcohol and dense tannic texture support a warm and enveloping sip, balanced by a lively freshness and a long, savory, and spicy finish.

Cellar

Jasci & Marchesani have been dedicated to organic winemaking since 1960, even anticipating the very concept of sustainable practices. They achieved official certification in 1978, becoming one of the first Italian wineries to do so. Currently, the company's vineyards span 33 hectares, owned by the company, and another 7 hectares, shared-cropped. The oldest vineyard dates back to 1973, allowing them to grow all the grapes themselves, then vinified in the winery, which operates with renewable energy. Each vineyard produces a different product; those cultivated in the Sinello Valley produce saline and savory white wines, while the clayey soil of the hills of the central Vasto area, thanks to its exposure and temperature range, produces a unique and sought-after Montepulciano, such as Janù.
